In 1919 my grandfather started
a laundry business in Chicago. He started
out, like many new Americans, with only the
clothes on his back. After adding dry-cleaning
to his operation, he was proud to have built
his chain of stores to 50 by 1960. When my
father was enlisted to run the company, he
knew that following in his father's footsteps
would not be easy. He then built the chain
of stores to 120 in all.
In 1974, Pekin Cleaners diversified into
the Uniform Rental business under the name
of Peco, Inc. Today, Peco services financial
markets across the United States, including
the New York Stock Exchange, Chicago Board
of Trade, and Chicago Mercantile Exchange,
just to name a few. When you see those
traders on the nightly news, odds are they
are wearing a Peco jacket. |
